OpenAI working on new AI image detection tools

OpenAI is introducing new tools to help researchers study the authenticity of online content and joining the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) Steering Committee. As generative AI becomes more prevalent for creating and editing images, videos, and audio, it will be increasingly important to have technical standards for tracing the origin of content. OpenAI aims to develop technical solutions for this challenge that put power in the hands of people while protecting individual privacy. They are open-sourcing a dataset of generated images with full consent of individuals to enable research on detecting synthetic content. OpenAI is also joining the C2PA to collaborate on developing industry standards for content provenance and authenticity. The company believes having c...

The Antithesis To Skynet

So, I was looking through my subscribed bowls on Glassdoor and came across this funny reply in one of the posts about AI. It didn't surprise me that someone joked about their company building an AI called Skynet. What surprised me is the number of comments from people implying that they've somewhat considered building Skynet or wouldn't care if something like it came into being. Regardless, the only reason I am posting a link to this reply and the comments is that one of the comments contains a link to a chat someone had with Google's Gemini Ultra about what the antithesis to Skynet would be like and how it would be built. I admit that I am impressed by the thoroughness of Gemini's responses. submitted by /u/NAStrahl [link] [comments]

Microsoft readies new AI model to compete with Google, OpenAI

Microsoft is training a new AI language model, MAI-1, to compete with Google and OpenAI. The project is led by Mustafa Suleyman, a former Google DeepMind co-founder. MAI-1 is larger than Microsoft's previous models and requires a significant amount of resources to train. The model is being developed using Nvidia's GPUs and a large dataset. Microsoft aims for MAI-1 to be a powerful competitor in the AI space. Source: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/1-microsoft-readies-ai-model-144406956.html submitted by /u/NuseAI [link] [comments]

Best tool for upscaling lots of long videos?

I want to upscale and generally improve a bunch of old family films. What tools should I consider? it's probably close to 100 films, each between 1 and 2 hours long. I prefer free options, but I don't mind paying if it's a reasonable pricing model. Bonus points if I can extract meta-data such as scenes, scenarios and facial recognition to help me categorize it submitted by /u/litari [link] [comments]

U.S. tech dominates generative AI boom–and cost of model training explains why

The Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI) 2024 AI Index report discusses the rise of multimodal foundation models, increased investment in generative AI, and global regulations on AI. The report emphasizes the dominance of U.S. tech companies in releasing high-performing models, with Google, Meta, and Hugging Face leading the pack. New cost estimates for model training reveal the high expenses, with Google's Gemini Ultra costing $191 million and OpenAI's GPT-4 costing $78 million. The report also covers AI's achievements in surpassing human performance in various benchmarks and its impact on scientific discovery and medical applications. Challenges highlighted include the lack of standardized evaluations for AI models, political deepfake concerns, privacy and...
